By: Sherr L
Produced by: Bernard van Leer Foundation , 2005
This paper presents an overview of the literature on children and HIV/AIDS from a psychological perspective. It summarises the complexity of who the children are, examines emerging orphan and vulnerability issues, explores HIV/AIDS treatment interventions and how they affect the emerging scenario in terms of child and parent infection, and focuses on the widespread psychological effects of HIV/AIDS on the young child. The study looks at the affects of infection, for example, at the family level, care arrangements, emotional and mental health considerations, development implications and gender.
